In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of staff and members of the public experiencing violence and abuse in healthcare settings. This regulated Level 4 qualification helps staff with strategic or organisational responsibility for violence prevention and reduction in health and social care settings to develop a working knowledge of practices that can support them to carry out their role.

What is Level 4 Violence Prevention and Reduction for Strategic Specialists?
In 2022, the NHS adopted a public health approach to violence prevention and reduction. This means focusing on the root causes, risk factors and triggers for violence and abuse taking place, rather than addressing the symptoms.
Holders of this qualification will have the appropriate knowledge and skills to the causes of violence and the public health approach to preventing and reducing it, to assess adapt and implement organisational procedures in relation to violence prevention and reduction and to plan, delivery and evaluate briefings and micro-training on this subject.
Who is this qualification for?
The RSPH Level 4 Award in Violence Prevention and Reduction for Strategic Specialists is designed to support those leading strategically on violence prevention and reduction in health and social care settings to support organisations to prevent and respond to violence and abuse.
Leading on strategic violence prevention and reduction within a health and social care setting? This qualification is aimed at individuals working in roles with an organisational focus on violence prevention and reduction, in healthcare settings. This includes Violence Prevention and Reduction Leads or anyone in leadership roles in healthcare environments.
Key skills
This regulated Level 4 qualification will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to support teams to lead on violence prevention and reduction in health and social care settings, including:
- The factors impacting on the risk of violence and abuse on healthcare settings
- Public health approaches to violence and abuse
- Assessing, adapting and implementing organisational procedures for preventing and reducing violence and abuse
- Delivering training in relation to preventing and reducing violence and abuse
Career progression
Learners who achieve this qualification can progress to degree programmes in violence prevention and reduction.
