In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of staff and members of the public experiencing violence and abuse in healthcare settings. This regulated Level 3 qualification helps staff with day-to-day responsibility for violence prevention and reduction in health and social care settings to develop a working knowledge of practices that can support them to carry out their role.

What is Level 3 Violence Prevention and Reduction for Strategic Specialists?
In 2022, the NHS adopted a public health approach to violence prevention and reduction. This means focusing on the root causes, risk factors and triggers for violence and abuse taking place, rather than addressing the symptoms.
Holders of this qualification will have the appropriate knowledge and skills to understand the causes of violence and abuse, to take action to prevent it from occurring and to respond effectively to any incidents that do occur, and to demonstrate leadership in supporting teams across a healthcare setting to contribute to violence prevention and reduction.
Who is this qualification for?
The RSPH Level 3 Award in Violence Prevention and Reduction for Strategic Specialists is designed for anyone working in violence prevention and reduction in health and social care settings to support teams across those environments to prevent and respond to violence and abuse. This includes Security Management Specialists, Violence Prevention and Reduction Leads or Health and Safety Specialists.
Key skills
This regulated Level 3 qualification will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to support teams to deliver violence prevention and reduction in health and social care settings, including:
- The factors affecting the risk of violence and abuse
- Principles of practice in preventing and reducing violence and abuse for Strategic Specialists
- Principles of practice in responding to incidents of violence and abuse for Strategic Specialists
- How to demonstrate leadership in supporting team to respond to incidents of violence and abuse
How long does it take to complete?
The qualification takes a total of 60 hours to complete, including 16 hours of guided learning time, assignments and portfolio of evidence.
Career progression
Successful candidates can progress on to further qualifications, such as the RSPH Level 4 Award in Violence Prevention and Reduction for Strategic Specialists.
