The harmful use of substances increases the risk of a number of serious health conditions, including heart disease, stroke and poor mental health. Our accredited Level 2 qualification will help you to build the knowledge needed to support others in relation to substance misuse.

What is substance misuse?
Substance misuse refers to the use of alcohol, illegal drugs or medications in a way that is harmful to the individual or those around them. This can have a number of short-term and long-term impacts, from jeopardising relationships to increasing the risk of serious physical and mental health conditions.
This accredited qualification is designed to help you have effective conversations with others around the misuse of substances, including signposting them to available help and support.
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual and CCEA.
Who is this qualification for?
The Level 2 Award in Understanding the Misuse of Substances is valuable for anyone in or looking for employment – particularly for roles which involve supporting individuals in relation to substance use – or if you’re looking to improve your own health and wellbeing.

By completing this qualification, you will come away with practical, actionable understanding of how to support others in relation to substance misuse, including:
- Factors that result in people misusing substances
- The personal and social consequences of substance misuse
- Know how to provide help and support to the individual in relation to substance misuse

How long does it take to complete?
The qualification takes a total of 10 hours to complete, including six hours of guided learning, followed by a workbook assessment.
