This qualification is for Special Procedures Practitioners either employed, self-employed or as practitioners managing a business. It is a valuable free standing qualification that is also suitable for apprentices and trainee practitioners engaged in other relevant vocational training and employment.

What is Level 2 Infection Control?
The RSPH Level 2 Award in Infection prevention control for special procedure practitioners provides knowledge and understanding of the importance of infection control and prevention, associated infectious and non-infectious hazards, good infection practice and controls based upon an awareness of the chain of infection and standard infection control precautions.
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual and Qualification Wales.

Level 2 Infection Control is valuable for anyone in or looking for employment in a job that involves special procedures – whether you have started a new role, are preparing for work experience, or are looking to improve safety for you and your team.

By completing this qualification, you will knowledge and understanding of facts, procedures and ideas in infection prevention and control, including:
- Understand infectious and non-infectious hazards associated with Special Procedures
- Understand how the risks from infectious and non-infectious hazards can be controlled
- The Legislative requirements associated with infectious and non-infections hazards

How long does it take to complete?
The qualification takes a total of 8 hours to complete, including 7 hours of guided learning time, followed by a 60-minute multiple-choice examination.
Career progression
On successful completion of this qualification, learners in England and Northern Ireland will be able to provide the enforcement authorities with evidence of their suitability to operate as a special procedures practitioner. Learners wishing to operate in Wales will be able to apply for a Special Procedures licence under Part 4 Public Health (Wales) Act 2017.
