What is Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment?

The RSPH Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment covers the fundamental principles of health and safety requirements on construction sites and the procedures necessary for managing risks and dealing with accidents and ill health. Accidents on construction sites are often due to carelessness or lack of knowledge.

This accredited qualification aims to help you make construction sites safer through awareness and understanding of the roles, responsibilities, risks, and hazards that could exist in this environment.

This qualification is regulated by Ofqual/CCEA and Qualification Wales.

Key skills

By completing this qualification, you will come away with basic factual knowledge of health and safety in a construction environment, procedures and ideas to complete well-defined routine tasks and address simple problems, including:

How long does it take to complete?

The qualification takes a total of 29 hours to complete, including 21 hours of guided learning time, followed by a 60-minute multiple-choice examination.

Career development

Successful achievement of this qualification will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the health and safety requirements of a construction site and, together with achievement of the CITB Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test, will enable you to obtain the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Labourers’ Green Card.
